antialiasing behavior when erasing

when using eraser, even with 100 hardness i dont erase things straight up, and just fade it a bit.
gotta click 3 times to achieve what selecting and then deleting does.
i dont know what am missing and failing to do and there no checkbox for antialiased on the eraser

Have you checked the "Flow" setting, if I set that <100 it has that fading efffect you mention, when set to 100 the edges are very sharp

yes, i tried adjusting the flow but the fading is still there on the edges, lower flow gives me more fading on the edge

Just to be sure, you have the opacity also to 100?
When I zoom in there is always a little bit of anti-aliasing/fading near the edges, but the main part is erased with one click/stroke.

Ah OK with 1px I see that behaviour too when clicking a pixel, when dragging it around so to speak it is sharper. The eraser doesn't have a 'smoothing' option like selection tool has where you can set it to 'none'.

Okay, I've just uploaded a new nightly build with significant changes to the way single-pixel brushes behave (including the erase tool).

@CambaCambaCambaCambaCambaCamba - whenever convenient, can you try the latest nightly build and let me know if the eraser tool now behaves how you expect it to? Thank you!

Works for me, 1x1 size erasure is crisp and clear.

Thank you so much for the feedback, everyone.

Because this new behavior deviates from other photo editors (Photoshop and Paint.NET both behave the old way), I want to add a toggle switch for the new behavior. Something like "snap to pixel edges" (text TBD).

I'll report back once that toggle is in place, so you can activate whichever mode suits you best.

Okay - in new nightly builds, this behavior is now available as a toggle on the right-most option panel of the Paint and Erase tools:

Turn that align to pixel grid option ON to activate the precision behavior described above.

(Similar behavior on the Pencil and Clone stamp tools is still TODO.)
