JIF is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), written entirely in Java, for the creation of text adventures based on Graham Nelson’s Inform standard. With JIF it’s possible to edit, compile and run a text adventure in the z-code and glulx formats.
Inform 7 has been developed with a new Integrated Editor but JIF can be used in any
Inform 6 or 7 Environments
The project has started in the 2003 and now it’s in a stable state for production.
This project is released under the GNU GPL Licence.
Since 3.6+ version, a Java Runtime 1.7 version is required.
You can use the Jif.jar file (in the next releases) or you can compile it.
- Download & Install Java JDK (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html)
- Download & Install Ant (ant.apache.org/)
- clone JIF repository
git clone https://github.com/silverslade/jif - compile JIF
cd jif ant
- Download and point JIF to the Inform compiler,
from http://www.inform-fiction.org/software/current.html
- Download and point JIF to the WindowsFrotz interpreter,
from http://www.ifarchive.org/indexes/if-archiveXinfocomXinterpretersXfrotz.html
- Download and point JIF to the Glulxe interpreter,
from http://www.ifarchive.org/indexes/if-archiveXprogrammingXglulxXinterpretersXglulxe.html
- Download Inform libraries and point JIF to them

- Download Bres Tools (bres and blc) and point JIF to them
