Highlight markdown doesn't render in some contexts

Love the highlight syntax, implemented in the last year. (This functionality highlights text that falls between double equal signs, ==like this==)

But for me, the highlighting doesn't render when the equal signs wrap:

1. The first characters of the first line of a file.
2. The first character of a line that is preceded by a blank line.
3. The first character of a list item, in both ordered and unordered lists.

Here's what I mean:

I'm on ST Stable Channel, Build 4192. Running Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS.

I've discovered some more aspects of this bug:

• A comment in the preceding line, unlike un-commented content, is inadequate to cause highlighting to render.
• Even with a character (x) following said comment, still within that comment's line, the highlighting won't render. Note that if that preceding line only contains an x, the highlighting renders.

I haven't found obvious reasons for why highlightings don't render at the beginning of paragraphs, yet. My hunch is it being related with how SETEXT headings are implemented, which also use ==, but it needs more investigation.
