Bind Esc to RevertLine in Emacs mode?

I like Emacs mode, except for the old-school Esc bindings. Emacs was my first editor, back when it was written in TECO, but now I'm too used to Esc clearing the input line. I tried just binding Esc to RevertLine, but that doesn't seem to work. Do I have to unbind all the other Esc bindings (how)?

The following works as expected:

Set-PSReadlineOption -EditMode Emacs
Set-PSReadlineKeyHandler Escape RevertLine

You need to set the edit mode first - changing the edit mode resets all key bindings.

That's exactly what I did. Apparently, I am hitting the history bug again, because Alt-r doesn't really work either as soon as I go back in the history with PreviousHistory. It seems to think it cleared the line, but the text is still on the screen. Alt and Ctrl key combinations start start 'SelfInsert'ing, Home only goes back to the beginning of the newly typed text, but not the still visible text that should have been cleared from the screen.
