Welcome to the Unofficial Transcribers of Reddit Repost Collection!

This is a collection of templates for common memes and reposts that should make transcribing the same basic image over and over again a much quicker and more painless job. The original repository was created by /u/voidcraftedgaming, and it was forked by /u/MurdoMaclachlan after activity in it died.

If you don't know r/TranscribersOfReddit and are interested in why we do this, head over to the FAQ.

Disclaimers

First of all, this repository is unofficial; it is maintained in my capacity as a volunteer, NOT as a moderator. There are a lot of templates here and it is not guaranteed that all of them are 100% up to date with the newest guidelines. It is your responsibility to know the guidelines and double check that your transcription meets them, even if using one of these templates.

For new transcribers, it is highly recommended that you do NOT use this repository until you have some experience with transcribing memes and images yourself. As stated above, it's not definite that everything here is up to date, and it will be far more beneficial for you to learn the basics early rather than copy paste for some quick gamma.

Usage

The easiest way to use this repository is with the directory pages in the side bar to the right. Each directory contains a list of memes & reposts fitting its name, and you can expand the directories in the sidebar to get a quick overview of the names of all memes contained there.

Unfortunately, GitHub's page search function only returns top-level pages, so it isn't useful for searching for a specific template, but the easiest rule to follow is: specifically LGBT-related templates are in the LGBT category, Wojak templates are in the Wojak category, and everything else is currently in Generic.

At a basic level, each template entry contains three links:

  • source: the markdown source for the template.
  • preview: a rendered preview to give you an idea of what it will look like -- note that this is displayed with GitHub's markdown renderer, not Reddit's.
  • image: an example image of the meme/repost being transcribed.

Some templates have multiple variants, either because the meme has several types that need to be transcribed a little differently, or because there are different common ways of transcribing the meme. In the latter case, there is a recommended variant, which is always listed first.

Many templates contain placeholders for the variable parts of the meme. These are indicated by {{REPLACE ME}}, and the entire placeholder, curly brackets included, should be replaced with whatever text is in the respective part of the image being transcribed.
