Confusing syntax for filtering to include dependencies and dependents

Hello, thanks for sharing a wonderful product. Forgive my cultural ignorance, but I find the syntax to be unintuitive.

Filtering to include dependencies is defined as: task...

And for dependents: ...task.

Shouldn't this be the other way round?

This makes no sense to me. Maybe there's a historical footnote I've missed?
