Font Style Setting?

How can I set the text to display in bold or italic? I noticed that there is a row of Style buttons on the font asset page in the manual, but I can't find this setting in the editor, what should I do?
Additionally, I've noticed that this setting is tied to the font, does this mean that if I need to use three different styles, I will need to load three separate font assets?
