Correct way to send default values to a form

Hi, some days ago i made a pull request for accomplish a way to send some default data, the problem happened to me when i wanted a form to prefill the inputs with the values on the request (meaning the attributes on the url ?example=1&other=value)

But freek closed the pull request, but didnt understand the reason, is there a current way to do the same?
