Mint isn't a good choice for servers, and it doesn't even focus on that. It's optimized for the desktop, with simple yet complete and customizable DEs (unlike GNOME, which focuses on minimalism), especially Cinnamon. However, as a workstation or even in a business context for basic functionality, it is not very attractive in many cases because there is no enough staff and contributors to guarantee excellent support for all forked software, and there is no complete and high-level paid support like that of RHEL, SUSE and Ubuntu, capable of providing third-level support and in a short time (for many companies it is a must). Regarding integration into active directory and similar systems, Mint can already be used as a client with manual settings for which documentation can be found. Eventually, an integration (client) could be added for some of the more common things (such as active directory) to make it simpler and faster, but I think more contributors would be needed to take care of this part well, keep it tested, document it, and be able to manage any incompatibilities that arise over time due to changes in the server parts (unfortunately, the proprietary parts are used quite a lot, if not more, and do not always guarantee backward compatibility and require modifications, such as Windows AD rather than Samba AD, to give you an example, at work I manage almost only networks with Windows AD and only 2 with Samba AD, even in cases where there is no real need for Windows but Samba would be enough, the customers and/or my employer still want Windows). Regarding official paid support, I don't know if it's already been evaluated and perhaps rejected by Clem due to lack of demand, time, money, and staff to implement it, or something else. But I think it would be a first step towards boosting enterprise use. |

To improve Linux Mint adoption in companies, it's necessary to improve Linux Mint integration into Active Directory or similar (ApacheDS, FreeIPA, Red Hat Identity Management, Synology Directory Server, Linux Schools, NethServer, Samba Active Directory, SambaÉdu, SAMBA+, Seth, Univention Corporate Server, Zential, JumpCloud...). Could you add a graphical tool to facilitate this integration? A GUI to rule adcli, krb5-user, libnss-sss, libpam-sss, ntp, realmd, samba, sssd, sssd-tools, krb5-config...
