Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.5 is in public preview for GitHub Copilot

Claude Sonnet 4.5, Anthropic’s most advanced model for coding and real-world agents, is now rolling out in GitHub Copilot to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise. From our early testing, the model brings major upgrades in tool orchestration, context editing, and domain-specific capabilities.

Availability in GitHub Copilot

Copilot Chat
Claude Sonnet 4.5 will be available for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise. You’ll be able to select the model in the Copilot Chat model picker from:

• Visual Studio Code in chat, ask, edit, and agent mode.
• github.com.
• GitHub Mobile in iOS and Android.

Copilot CLI
All users of Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise will also be able to select Claude Sonnet 4.5 from the new model picker, available in the latest version of the Copilot CLI (v0.0.329).

To switch to Claude Sonnet 4.5, update to the latest version with npm install -g [@GitHub](https://github-grid.enterprise.slack.com/team/U01SS5FBV5Y)/copilot, then use the /model command.

Enabling access

For all use cases, rollout will be gradual, check back soon if you don’t see it yet.

Enterprise and Business plan administrators must enable the Claude Sonnet 4.5 policy in Copilot settings. Once enabled, users in that organization will have Claude Sonnet 4.5 available in the Copilot Chat model picker and Copilot CLI.

Copilot Free, Pro, and Pro+ users may also bring their own key in Visual Studio Code by selecting Manage Models from the picker, choosing Anthropic, and entering their API key when prompted.

@powellnorma Claude Sonnet 4.5 is available in public preview to all paid users meaning GitHub Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise plans users should have access to it. You can access the model in GitHub Copilot Chat on github.com, GitHub Mobile, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse through the chat model picker (agent, ask, and edit modes).

What I noticed - S4.5 is:

1. faster (I can't say x2 faster, from my personal feelings, it's 20-30% faster);
2. produces much less text (and most of the time - noisy) output.
   But it's only my opinion.
