github copilot can't edit files directly with remotessh environment on vscode.

I use github copilot with remotessh environment on vscode.
Remotessh server (Ubuntu) can't access internet because of security issue, but local server （windows） can access internet.
So, i setup the settings.py as following so that copilot can move in local server.

"remote.extensionKind": {
        "GitHub.copilot": [
            "ui"
        ],
        "GitHub.copilot-chat":[
            "ui"
        ]
    },

However, in this situation, github copilot can't edit program files directly.
I guess this is because the local server is windows and file path is described by backslash() ,but the remote server is linux and file path is described by slash(/), so github copilot can't recognize files' path properly.

How can i solve this problem?
Does anyone knows any effective ways?

you mean, you think since VSCode can edit, the AI should be able to edit it also ?

but Copilot is not designed like that, actually what you are trying to do is part of the new MCP ( Model Context Protocol ) that the LLM is given the full access to any resource, like a deployed website, so it can modify and have more context on the actual config of that setup

I have the EXACT same issue as described in the original post.

When working inside a Windows based VS Code installation, but with the project located on a remote Linux machine (using the Remote-SSH extension) Copilot doesn't seem to have a clue how to edit the project files, even with all permissions in tact to build or debug the project.

I litterly asked Copilot this: "Is my CMakeLists.txt located on a Windows or Linux machine? Is it a local or remotely located file?"

This is wat Copilot answered:
"OS: Windows - so CMakeLists.txt is on your Windows machine.
Location: Local file in your workspace (not on a remote server).
Note: I couldn't read it earlier from my sandbox; open CMakeListst.txt in the editor and I can apply the change for you"

from its thinking history I can also see that Copilot uses backslashes (instead of forward slashes) to present the full path to my CMakeLists.txt on the remote Linux.

I encountered the same problem. Due to network issues with remote-ssh, I had to run GitHub Copilot locally via settings. I encountered an issue where Copilot could read remote files, but the created files were located locally. Specifically, VSCode created a path similar to (D:/home/user/Desktop/...) on the installation disk.
