Animations are quite laggy on Mac retina

This is probably the first time I have noticed this, but after surfing and searching for a bit, I realised that it is quite common issue. Can someone back me up on this?
@mattgperry Are there some known ways of tackling this issue? Am I missing some obvious configurations on animation theory that I should have applied to make sure the animations are 60FPS no matter the pixel ratio?
