An Idea for Remote Development Connectivity

I've observed that Theia employs a completely decoupled development model between its frontend and backend, communicating via socket.io.

This leads me to wonder: Could the following remote connectivity approach be implemented?

• Both Host Machine A and Host Machine B are running Theia on port 3000.
• When a user accesses Theia in their browser via host-machine-a:3000, they are presented with an option to connect to the backend running on Host Machine B.
• This would allow the user to perform remote coding or debugging directly within Host Machine B's environment.

Is this feasible?

Hey @NO-MAP,

I like the idea, but I feel like this borders on something that we already have as a separate project in the Eclipse Theia project, namely the theia-cloud subproject.

In the end, Theia is a framework for building IDEs, not a framework to manage online workspaces. This is specifically out of scope for this project.
