Think of your GitHub profile as a night sky - each commit a star, each badge a constellation. π Some shine bright, some fade, and sometimes a whole cluster seems to go missing.
In September, the Profile category became our telescope, zooming in on the mysteries behind green squares, commit emails, and achievement unlocks. Letβs chart the stars together. π
π Missed August's check-in? Catch up here!
β¨ Community Highlights
From troubleshooting tricky contribution graph issues to creative ways of keeping streaks alive, the community has been buzzing with smart questions and even smarter solutions. Here are some standout threads from the past month that got members talking - and problem-solving.
Why does my GitHub profile README not display correctly? - Huge shoutout to @VictorMoni for raising this tricky README issue, and to @davevad93 for stepping in with a clear, actionable solution. A great reminder of how community knowledge makes debugging faster (and less painful!).
Missing contributions in graph after re-adding verified email - Thanks to @CoderZule for bringing up a recurring contribution graph headache. @mao1910 jumped in with helpful context and resources, turning confusion into clarity for anyone running into the same situation.
Starstruck Badge Not Awarded β @sercanvr sparked a great discussion around the Starstruck badge, and @davevad93 helped clear the air with an important detail: visit the discussion to find out what it was.! π
With highlights like these, one thingβs clear: Profile keeps evolving thanks to you. Stick around to see whatβs next.
π Discussions That Could Use Your Help
Some questions are still looking for clarity - and this is where your voice can have an impact. β¨ By sharing your knowledge, experiences, or even asking follow-up questions, you can help fellow community members get unstuck and keep their profiles shining. Here are a few threads waiting for your insight:
Missing contributions β @Charlie-BU recently added a new email address, but the commits tied to it arenβt being reflected in their contribution graph. Theyβre wondering why the activity isnβt being recognized.
Contribution graph not updating several days after secondary email address addition β @fiaxdev combined multiple emails into a single account, yet their contribution graph still isnβt showing past or new work. Theyβre looking for advice on how to get everything properly aligned.
Contributions to public repository shows up in "Pulse" but not contributor graphs and lists? β @kasperl is puzzled that their commits appear on the Pulse page but not on contributor graphs or lists, even though theyβre tied to their GitHub account.
my github commits are not reflecting green squares β Despite committing regularly, @Mohammad-Palla isnβt seeing those green squares fill in on their contribution graph, and theyβre hoping for guidance on what might be going wrong.
GitHub Profile got deindexed on search engines β @Zyrenth noticed their profile suddenly disappearing from Google and other search engines, even while other parts of their GitHub presence remain indexed. Theyβre searching for ideas on why this might happen and how to fix it.
π‘ If youβve encountered similar situations, have a technical workaround, or just a word of encouragement, jump into the conversation. Every perspective helps turn confusion into clarity - and thatβs the power of our community.
π©βπ A Smarter Profile Menu
The Profile menu in global navigation just got a refresh in September - and itβs all about helping you get where you need to go, faster.
The updated menu now puts the most relevant actions front and center, like jumping straight to your repositories, enterprises, or profile. You can also set your status and use single sign-on (SSO) right from the top of the menu. Links for appearance and accessibility are easier to find, while options not tied to user actions have been removed to keep things clean.
These updates aim to reduce friction and make your Profile feel more streamlined. Curious to see the full details? Check out the announcement here and share your feedback with the team!
