i think we should have a somewhat-concrete idea of how we should handle the mod manager.
As of right now, it's in it's infancy, doesn't have enough functionality to be mass-shared to every user. But that's to be expected.
At some point we do absolutely need to "officially" begin directing users to it for installation instead of manual installation. The question is when this is reasonable.
A safe and conservative approach would be to wait until the mod manager is featureful and is just as capable as a manual installation, and the index is fully populated with every common mod (within reason). This would be most comfortable for users when it releases.
The obvious flaw there is that of course this will take a long time. There's also the idea that adopting it earlier will push mod developers to publish their mod on the index earlier, thus making it better, earlier.
The other end of the spectrum would be adopting it very soon, and fleshing out the manager as is demanded by users. This might be rough for users, but Skyline would have a much bigger base to gather suggestions and bug reports from, speeding up development.
I personally am more in favor of the safer approach I mentioned, but I can see something inbetween being reasonable and not too rough on users, mod developers, or Skyline.
A poll is attached. It would be nice to hear thoughts in the form of a message, but numbers are always good to get a quick idea.
When should BMM be adopted?
Soon (as soon as we get a "functional enough" alpha)
41%
Late (when the manager can be considered complete, or almost so)
