Help Building from Source

Hello,

Is it possible to get some general build steps/environment tips for the latest release and source code?

With the release of v3.0.0 I thought it'd be really nice to update and take a look at the latest improvements. A while back I made personalized changes to the v2.3.4 release and haven't been able to update for some time as the changes were made straight in the minified distribution files. It would be really nice to be able to fork the entire repository and work from there instead. I've tried previously to build from the source but haven't been successful.
