ESP32-S3 1.8inch

Has any one tried using the ESP32-S3 with 1.8 inch display work with the 1.69 firmware? Link here: https://www.waveshare.com/esp32-s3-touch-amoled-1.8.htm. Wonder if it works as the 1.8 inch version has added advantage of a built-in battery.

Hi John. Unfortunately that one won't work with the 1.69 firmware.
Many of these types of boards use different hardware for the display and sometimes touch screen also.
The LCD driver on the 1.69 is a different chip to the Oled driver on the 1.8. Its also a different resolution, so would need driver code and a new UI layout.

Regardng the battery, quite a few of the boards can support batteries and charging. However, the voltage of a Lithium battery is around 4.2 volts maximum. This is not high enough for the USB host port to work, which needs 5 volts.
So even if the 1.8" was supported, it would not be able to control the Tonex when running on batteries.

If you are keen for battery power, a better option is a USB "power bank" type of device. These include a circuit that boosts the internal battery up to 5 volts.
