Versions with letter suffixes compared incorrectly

I have an entry like this (which should be gone soon as I'm going to add a skipv):

which shows that versions with letter suffixes are not compared correctly: portscout shows that 12.1 as newer than 12.1a, however that's not true, and contradicts to how port versions are compared:

I see the same behavior on security/sudo
