[Issue]:can not install versions older then 16.

What happened?

Can not install versions older then 16. I tried installing node 14, 15 and 10 and I got hit with this error: error installing 14.21.3: open C:\Users\su\AppData\Local\Temp\nvm-npm-2016208765\npm-v6.14.18.zip: The system cannot find the file specified.
When I installed nvm 1.1.11 it worked to install it but the latest version just gives me this error for any node version older then 16.

What did you expect to happen?

To get the node 14 version installed and not have any errors

Please fix this issue! Or at least specify that only nvm 1.1.11 or older work.

There is a work around at the moment which is the following.

1. Go to https://nodejs.org/en/about/previous-releases
2. Select the version you want (Be careful to have the correct Architecture).
3. Download the file.
4. Take the folder that contains the binary and place it in your nvm folder (you can find your nvm folder doing the following. Type nvm root.
   nvm root will spit out the location of your nvm folder where you can place your new folder.
   Example I am using 10.24.1 and I placed my folder into the nvm folder and it works now with nvm use 10.24.1.
   NOTE:
   Make sure that your folder you put in the nvm folder is the root folder of your node version.
   )
5. Go back to CLI.
6. Type: nvm use version name (something like 10.24.1) Example: nvm use 10.24.1

Doesn't work with v12 at least. The zip node-v12.22.12-win-x64.zip doesn't contain node.exe etc, so nvm says it's not installed.

Other solutions to roll back to older versions of nvm are no use as I'm using Dev Drive on E drive and there's a fix in nvm 12.2.2 to support installing other than on C drive

Solution I've got is to install the node.js MSI for the version needed, copy the C:\Program Files\nodejs to nvm root folder and rename it to the node version.

Windows Sandbox is useful for this without messing with your Windows environment

Expanding on alfa-meta's fix:

Workaround:

1. Go to https://node.js.org/en/about/previous-releases
2. Select the Binary Downloads version you want
3. Download and extract the file
4. Rename the directory to be only the Node version. For example, rename node-v14.21.3-win-x64 to v14.21.3
5. Place the renamed folder into the nvm root directory. You can find the node root directory with the command nvm root
6. In the CLI, run the command nvm ls and you should see the version you just added
7. Test by switching to the new version. For example, nvm use v14.21.3
